About House of Carol

Useful help for work that does not always fit neatly into a job title.

House of Carol is an independent business-services practice founded and run by Alan W Gallagher in Bristol.

Organisations often have important work that sits between teams, systems and responsibilities: a process that has become harder than it should be, information that needs untangling, research that needs doing properly, or a piece of digital or operational work that needs someone to take ownership of it.

House of Carol exists for that kind of work.

Why House of Carol exists

Useful help, without unnecessary theatre.

Not every problem needs a large consultancy, another software subscription or a permanent specialist.

Sometimes an organisation needs somebody to understand a defined problem, work through it carefully and return something genuinely useful.

House of Carol brings together research, practical technology and human judgement to help with that kind of work.

The approach is deliberately practical: understand what is happening, be clear about what can and cannot be done, and leave the customer with something they can actually use.

Founded and run by

Alan W Gallagher

Alan is a Bristol-based business and technical operations professional whose work has spanned IT services, information-security administration, healthcare, customer operations, legal administration and regulated service environments.

Much of that work has involved sitting between different people and systems: technical teams, managers, suppliers, operational users and customers. The job has often been to clarify what is needed, keep complicated work moving, resolve problems and turn technical or operational detail into something people can act on.

The common thread is less glamorous and more useful: understanding how work actually moves, noticing where it gets stuck, translating technical detail into practical action and leaving behind a clearer record than the one he inherited.

That experience is directly relevant to House of Carol because many of the problems customers bring do not belong neatly to one professional box.

What that means for the work

Clear thinking. Practical delivery. Honest boundaries.

Understand the problem before proposing the answer.
The first job is to understand what you are actually trying to achieve.

Make complicated work easier to understand.
Technical detail, competing priorities and unclear responsibilities should become clearer, not more complicated.

Use technology where it helps.
Digital tools and AI may make work faster or better, but they are not automatically the answer.

Be clear about limits.
If House of Carol is not the right fit, or specialist or regulated professional advice is required, we will say so.

Leave something useful behind.
The result should help you decide, act, improve or continue the work with less confusion than before.

Want to know what happens next?

Tell us what you are trying to achieve.

You do not need to know which service you need. A short description of the problem is enough to begin.
